FAQs
Why the name “The Fine Print Bakery”?
All ingredients are gluten-free and vegan, so there's no "fine print" to muddle through. Many of the cookies are molded, creating cookies with a "fine print".
How much do your cookies cost?
Sugar Cookies: Start at $36/dozen and price depends on additions, detail, and complexity and size of the cookies.
Springerle: Because the molds vary in size and depth, I sell these cookies by the pound. Under the "Menu" section of this site is a listing of the number of cookies that make up a pound for each mold. Customizations, like chocolate or floral backings, the additions of nuts, or painting are at an additional cost.
All other cookie offerings can be found under "Menu".
Do you provide shipping?
Shipping is not available. Customers may pickup their orders in Cumming, GA 30040. Delivery within a twenty-mile radius of zip code 30040 is available for an additional fee.
How do I place an order for decorated cookies?
Please email me at thefineprintbakery@gmail.com to begin the ordering process.
How long do your baked goods keep? How should I store them?
My baked goods are best enjoyed fresh, stored in an airtight container. Cookies and confections will keep well for up to two weeks. Strudels and hamantashen will be best eaten within one week.
If you want to keep your treats for a later time, all freeze exceptionally well in airtight containers. Defrost at room temperature, keeping items in a single layer, before eating.
Which gluten-free flours do you use?
I bake using a blend of rice and sorghum flours, in addition to tapioca and potato starches, cellulose, and xantham gum.
Which substitutes do you use to create vegan versions of your cookies?
To replace eggs, I use "aquafaba", which is the brine from cooked chickpeas. In lieu of butter, I bake with Earth Balance Soy Free Buttery Spread, unsweetened applesauce, or coconut oil. I replace milk with oat milk and use agave or maple syrup to replace honey. All of the sprinkles, dark chocolate, and food coloring are gluten-free and vegan.
Do you offer dairy-free or vegan items?
Yes! All of my baked treats and marzipan are vegan!
What are "springerle"?
Springerle are a European cookie with a fine, crisp outside and a chewy, cake-like interior. Springerle originated in 14th Century Germany and Switzerland, and were usually molded to depict religious images that the Church would distribute to the population during holidays. Traditionally flavored with anise or lemon, the cookies were molded using hand-carved wooden or metal molds. These simple, but not easy to create, cookies are labor- and time-intensive. After creating the dough (which includes eggs that have been beaten for thirty minutes or more), the dough must rest overnight until it is ready to be molded. Each springerle is rolled, molded using historical replica molds, and cut by hand, and then allowed to “set” so that the image does not blur during baking. Once the cookies have set for up to 36 hours, they are baked at a low temperature to maintain their white color. The term “springerle” refers to how the cookies “spring”, or rise, from the bottom during baking.
